Where is your community on the transformation journey?

Over the past three years, Morrison Senior Dining has conducted extensive research into the next generational wave of senior community residents known as the Silent Generation. We documented our research in a market study entitled “A Voice to the Silents.” Since the report’s publication, we have continued to explore the transformation theme that surfaced during our first study in hopes of better identifying the community transformation required to address both the needs and the wants of this emerging market. This second phase of research is being published in an industry report, “Transforming Retirement Communities for the Next Generation.”

A change model emerged from this research that we call the Essential Elements of Transformation. It provides a construct for discussing the evolution taking place as communities reposition for the Silent Generation, as well as an instrument for evaluating an individual community’s position along the spectrum of transformation. The successful transformation from a community that addresses the needs of the GI Generation to one which attracts Silent Generation residents will rely on how well the community can perform across six separate but inter-related elements: Filtered Decisions, Resident Engagement, Lifestyle of Choice, Community Without Walls, Wellness Integration and Technology Enabled.
